American southpaw Taylor Townsend is 3 – 0 in Ohio this week and she’ll face Daria Kasatkina on Thursday in the second round of the Cincinnati Open.

The price on Kasatkina to win this WTA1000 affair ranges from -160 to -180 but EJ Garr’s Taylor Townsend vs Daria Kasatkina prediction features odds at -115 which you can take advantage of below.

Daria Kasatkina drew the 9-seed and was tossed into Section 3 of the main draw at the Cincinnati Open. Kasatkina is the favorite to advance past American Taylor Townsend and the line is rising to as high as -180 at certain sites.
Kasatkina needed a win in the first round in Cincinnati after going winless in DC and Toronto to start the North American swing.
Taylor Townsend has fared much better since the end of the clay season, and after a run to the quarterfinals in Toronto, the American is 6 – 1 over the last seven outings. Townsend enjoyed the Lucky Loser role in Toronto getting to play in six matches up North before going 3 – 0 in Cincinnati this week.
Despite only putting up a 64% first-serve number, Kasatkina put up a nice performance against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round. Daria broke Alexandrova to start the match and it was the only break in the opening frame as Kasatkina earned a 6 – 4 win. Kasatkina went on to break Alexandrova three more times in the second set and here she is favored to reach the third round.
Taylor hits a heavy ball and on a fast track like Cincinnati it suits her game but limiting mistakes is going to be the difference. That big shot grows wings too often and the unforced errors can add up quickly which is a concern against a player ranked close to the top 10.
Kasatkina will advance and cover the -2.5 Handicap in the second round.
This is Taylor’s seventh run at Cincinnati and the second round is as good as it gets after six showings. Here she is again and listed as the underdog in the second round.
Townsend went 4 – 2 in Toronto after earning the Lucky Loser spot and has won six of her last seven outings with a 3 – 0 record in Cincinnati.
With an 18 – 10 record on hardcourts this season, Townsend is ranked 53rd on the WTA Tour and has a 45 – 25 record on the surface over the last three years.
Kasatkina is ranked 12th on the WTA Tour and in a position to have winning records on all three surfaces this campaign. With an 8 – 4 record on clay and an 8 – 2 record on the grass that includes a title run Eastbourne, Kasatkina is 13 – 10 on hardcourts and will likely finish with a positive record.
Kasatkina is 96 – 63 on hardcourts over the last five seasons and hasn’t produced a losing record on any surface over that time span.
Daria Kasatkina has gotten the better of Townsend twice in two meetings although the first time they met was way back in 2015 at the US Open.
Kasatkina earned a straight-sets win in that meeting and in 2022 the two met in San Jose and Daria swept Townsend for a second time.
