There are six meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with competitive low grade flat racing dominating from Bath, Brighton, Kempton (AW), Pontefract, Sligo and Yarmouth. The recent wet weather has made life tough for punters in the past week or so, with the ground on the softer side across the country.

Carrigilhilly
Pontefract 3:20 (UK time)
Tim Easterby’s handicapper has long shaped as though a proper test of stamina would suit him on the flat (promise in a couple of runs over hurdles), and he ran a lot better than the bare result at Haydock last time out (up on a strong pace/faded a furlong out). The return to Pontefract is expected to suit now upped to 2m1f (five of his six career wins have come at this track), and a more patient ride is on the cards in what should be a truly run Class 4 contest.
Odds: NA
Hortzadar
Pontefract 3:50 (UK time)
David O’Meara now has his team firing on all cylinders after a relatively quiet few months, and this frustrating hold-up performer is fancied to return to winning form under Richard Oliver. He has not won since April 2022, but is now extremely well handicapped and caught the eye under a negative ride on testing ground at Ripon last time out (soon well off the pace but stayed on well in a well run contest).
Odds: NA
