There are seven meetings in Britain and Ireland on a very busy Thursday, with competitive low level handicaps very much the order of the day Carlisle, Fairyhouse, Lingfield (AW), Ripon, Rosscommon and Yarmouth on the flat (with drying ground/hot, sunny weather forecast and the emphasis very much on speed across all the turf tracks). Jumps fans have an evening card at Market Rasen to study, with the action getting underway at 5.40pm

Ripon 2:50 (UK time)
Ed Bethell has a very strong team for the summer months ahead, and his unexposed maiden 3-y-o has been found a very good opening to get off the mark at Ripon on Thursday. He was very well backed down to 5/6f for his handicap debut at Redcar earlier in the month, but just failed to find a gear change on ground that was on the easier side of good. This step up to a mile on faster ground should be ideal, and he remains open to plenty of improvement after just seven career starts (highly tried in strong maidens as a juvenile).

Cosmos Raj
Ripon 3:20 (UK time)
David O’Meara’s 5-y-o handicapper has eased down the weights after a couple of lesser efforts so far this season (negative ride last time over a mile in a better race), and he could now be worth chancing upped to 1m2f. He showed a terrific attitude when coming from last to first over this unique course and distance last August, and a strong pace up front should set things up for a late charge under Jason Watson.
Odds: NA
