There are six meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with competitive handicaps very much the order of the day up and down the country. Cards at Haydock, Leopardstown, Newbury, Nottingham and Yarmouth will keep punters and bookmakers busy throughout the afternoon and evening. NH fans have Worcester to study (with drying fast ground expected despite plenty of watering and the emphasis very much on speed).
In this article:
Gold as Glass
Newbury 3:25 (UK time)
Marco Botti’s promising 3-y-o filly was a huge eyecatcher at Wolverhampton last time out on her seasonal reappearance, sent off an unfancied 13/2 chance but finishing strongly into fourth from a poor starting position. She remains open to loads of improvement after just two career runs (good winner at Newmarket on debut last October), and the booking of Jim Crowley certainly increases confidence now pitched into handicap company.
Odds: NA
Tele Red
Newbury 1:50 (UK time)
Karl Burke’s exposed handicapper has shaped really well in defeat on two starts at Ripon recently (well backed latest but rather ruined up front on a contested pace), and is worth siding with here on the prevailing fast ground that suits ideally. This flat, galloping track will help as he lacks an immediate turn of foot, and a positive ride is on the cards from the handy amateur rider Mr Jack Lander.
Odds: NA
