The last day of racing before a three-day Christmas break, and the jumps action comes from Ayr and Ffos Las (rearranged), with big fields assured at both tracks on the very testing ground. AW fans have cards at Lingfield and Southwell to get struck into, with low grade handicaps very much the order of the day.
In this article:
Ivar
Ayr 1:30 (UK time)
Donald McCain’s ex-French novice made a very good start over hurdles in the UK when finishing second at Bangor last month behind the well backed Kellahen, going with zest under a positive ride and just reeled in late with the pair miles clear. That form has been well franked since by the remote third winning next time out into handicaps, and he has been found a terrific opening to get off the mark at Ayr on Thursday under Brian Hughes.
Odds: NA
Rae des Champs
Ayr 2:00 (UK time)
Rose Dobbin’s unexposed handicapper looked one to follow in the North this winter, and is worth forgiving a slightly lesser effort at Newcastle last month on her seasonal reappearance (shade onepaced off a steady gallop). That first run since March should have put her spot on fitness-wise for this possibly easier prize, and a patient ride from Craig Nichol should see her resume his progress (plenty of pace on that should help this former point winner).
Odds: NA
