There is a traditional “ITV 7” on Saturday, as the cameras cover the best of the flat action from Chester, Sandown and York. All three tracks have been watering regularly throughout the week to ensure conditions do not get too firm, and the excellent prize money on offer should mean plenty of really competitive handicaps with big fields up and down the country. Astute punters will be looking for Ebor clues in the 3.05pm on the Knavesmire, with a competitive listed prize over the 1m6f trip sure to attract some of the most progressive northern stayers, while the Scurry Stakes at Sandown is usually a hotly contested sprint.

Kihavah
York 2:00 (UK time)
Adrian Keatley’s handicapper has thrived in recent weeks, relishing the prevailing fast ground conditions and looking one well ahead of her mark when bolting up at this track last time out (and winning at Market Rasen over hurdles since). She will relish the likely fast pace back at York on Saturday, and has one of the best leading lady amateur riders in Miss Josephine Townend booked (which counts for plenty in a race of this nature).
Odds: NA
Rabaah
York 3:40 (UK time)
Charlie Hills dual all-weather winner caught the eye in a small field listed prize at Newbury last time out, refusing to settle under restraint in the early stages and gradually fading before the final furlong. He is just the sort to do a lot better in a big field of handicappers, and can swoop late here off a fast pace under Jim Crowley (with plenty of scope to improve after just two runs on the turf previously).
Odds: NA

Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
2:00 | York | Kihavah | Adrian Keatley’s handicapper has thrived in recent weeks, relishing the prevailing fast ground conditions and looking one well ahead of her mark when bolting up at this track last time out (and winning at Market Rasen over hurdles since). She will relish the likely fast pace back at York on Saturday, and has one of the best leading lady amateur riders in Miss Josephine Townend booked (which counts for plenty in a race of this nature). |
2:15 | Sandown | Bodorgan | Charlie Hills lightly raced improver caught the eye on his seasonal reappearance behind Covey at Haydock 21 days ago, given a negative ride and finishing with running left in the tank. William Buick replaces Hollie Doyle at Sandown on Saturday, and the stiffer uphill finish over this mile trip should suit ideally. |
2:35 | York | Indian Falcon | Richard Fahey has an excellent record at his local track, and this unexposed handicapper has been running himself into peak form with a couple of excellent runs in victory and defeat so far this spring. He should now be fully fit, with the yard in top form, and the step up to 7f should be ideal. |
2:50 | Sandown | Perdika | George Boughey has a very strong hand as usual in the sprint division, and it looks significant that he brings his smart filly for this valuable listed prize. She posted a career best effort sent over to Chantilly last time out, showing a terrific attitude to prevail on the nod over six furlongs (pair trapping well clear of the rest), and will not be inconvenienced by this stiff five furlongs on much faster ground under William Buick. |
3:05 | York | Quickthorn | Hughie Morrison’s stayer is best dominating from the front on fast ground, and could well secure an uncontested lead under the excellent Jason Hart here in a small field. He has run with credit at Meydan and York so far this season, with his latest fourth a lot better than the bare result (jumped the path and harried early on at a fair pace). |
3:20 | Chester | Saxon King | Charlie Hills has now hit form after a slow start to the turf season, and his progressive handicapper shaped well in defeat at York last time out (harried on the lead and just wilting inside the final furlong). The fast ground at Chester on Saturday should suit ideally under Kieron Shoemark, and he remains open to more improvement after just five career runs on turf. |
03:40 | York | Rabaah | Charlie Hills dual all-weather winner caught the eye in a small field listed prize at Newbury last time out, refusing to settle under restraint in the early stages and gradually fading before the final furlong. He is just the sort to do a lot better in a big field of handicappers, and can swoop late here off a fast pace under Jim Crowley (with plenty of scope to improve after just two runs on the turf previously). |
