There is cracking flat racing on ITV on Saturday, with the cameras covering the very best of the action from Ascot and York. Very quick ground is expected at both tracks after a red hot week of weather, and there has been watering to try and keep the jar out of the ground at both tracks.

The highlight of the whole afternoon comes at the Berkshire venue, with the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes looking set to be a vintage Group 1 (with Westover and Emily Upjohn providing a fascinating clash between the best of the colts and fillies).

At York there are some typically tough handicaps for punters to solve, with the Sky Bet Dash at 2.40pm sure to attract all the usual speedballs over one of the fastest sprint trips in the country.

This return to seven furlongs should suit ideally, and he has a terrific record on the straight course at Ascot overall (six runs, one win and placed on four other occasions in warm company).

1:50	Ascot	Breege	John Quinn’s filly looked smart when making a winning debut readily at Wetherby in May, and may have been undone by the stiff track when turned over at 4/9f at Pontefract last time out. This Group 3 represents a jump up in class, but she relishes fast ground and can quicken away from these late Jason Hart.
2:05	York	Indian Sounds	Daryl Jacob achieved the feat of riding a winner at every jumps track this week with a success at Cartmel, and he seems sure to be thereabouts on Paul Midgeley’s battle hardened sprinter. He has slipped down the weights this summer without making much impression from off the pace, but is now well handicapped as a result and they are bound to go off very hard up front here which might set things up for a late charge.

2:40	York	Aberama Gold	Keith Dalgleish’s sprinter has been running himself into form this summer, catching the eye in defeat at Ayr on his last two starts. He is a previous course and distance winner here, and seems sure to give his running again under Billy Garrity.

3:15	York	Sir Busker	William Knight’s reliable performer would not normally be the type you would expect to win a Group 2 aged 7, but he has been running well all summer at the top level and this does represent a marked drop in class compared with Royal Ascot last time out. He has won 5 of his 36 career starts, and looked rather unlucky in this contest in 2021 when finishing a close fourth behind Space Blues.
3:35	Ascot	Westover	Ralph Beckett’s top class performer gained compensation for a troubled run in the Epsom Derby when taking the Irish equivalent in style last time out, and he remains with plenty of potential to keep on progressing after just six career starts. A positive ride will be needed round here on fast ground (very much a grinding galloper rather than an explosive quickener), but Colin Keane is aware of his strengths and can put these to the sword turning for home.
