Today’s Racing Tips – October 7th

There are 8 races covered live on ITV on Saturday, with some cracking flat action coming from Ascot, Newmarket and Redcar. The Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at HQ at 3.15pm is very much the highlight in terms of quality, with all the top yards likely to be well represented by some top drawer fillies over the mile trip. Over at Redcar, they stage their biggest meeting of the season, with the excellent prize money on offer for the 2-y-o Trophy at 2.45pm sure to bring out a large and very competitive field of smart juveniles.

Today’s Daily Nap

Garrus

Ascot 3:00 (UK time)

Charlie Hills useful sprinter has been highly tried in top company since winning a Group 3 at Newmarket in April on decent ground, and he will relish this drop back down to Group 3 level at Ascot on Saturday. The booking of Jim Crowley is a big plus, and the likelihood of a strong pace to aim at should set things up ideally for his customary late charge.

Odds: NA

Today’s Value Angle

Crystallium

Newmarket 1:30 (UK time)

Peter Chapple-Hyam’s filly had been shaping well and improving run to run for this yard until finding the ground too soft at Haydock last time out, and she will relish the quick conditions expected at Newmarket on Saturday. She remains with upside in handicaps after just nine career starts (five this summer for new connections and a huge eye-catcher at Sandown in July at listed level), and the booking of the excellent 5lb claimer Morgan Cole certainly increases confidence.

Odds: NA

1:50AcsotEmaraaty AnaKevin Ryan’s smart sprinter has not been easy to place over the last couple of years (winless since September 2021), but she has been running really well in defeat in recent months and this listed prize on fast ground looks an excellent opportunity to snap that losing run under regular rider Neil Callan.
2:05NewmarketWoodhay WonderTom Ward’s progressive 2-y-o has thrived since making a promising start at Kempton in June, and took his form to another level when coming from last to first on the July course here in August (ridden with supreme confidence by Frankie McDonald and value for more than the narrow margin).
2:25AcsotPostileoRoger Varian has his team in top form as the flat season draws to a close, with 8 winners in the last fortnight, and this useful handicapper comes into this Group 3 prize at the top of his game. He impressed when overcoming adversity in the run when winning a fair Hamilton handicap last time out, and has less questions to answer here than some higher-rated rated rivals.
2:45RedcarDragon LeaderClive Cox’s 2-y-o lost his unbeaten record to Room Service at Doncaster last time out, rather finding the soft ground sapping his turn of foot but still running a blinder to be second of 17 in a valuable prize. He will relish the quicker ground conditions expected at Redcar on Saturday, and remains with plenty of upside after just four career starts.

3:15NewmarketInspiralJohn and Thady Gosden’s high class filly has only made it to the track there times this season, but she impressed in winning at Deauville in August (despite the easy ground being a concern), and her freshness should count for plenty in a Group 1 that lacks realistic contenders in the form-book. She has won 7 of her 11 career starts, amassing neatly £2m in prize money, and Frankie Dettori will be looking to pounce late on faster ground that should suit ideally.
3:35AcsotPopmasterEd Walker’s 5-y-o has a terrific strike rate, winning 6 of his 31 starts so far, and he posted a career best effort on soft ground at Newbury last time out at listed level (always travelling strongly under a confident ride from Ross Coakley). He has plenty of form on faster ground (including when a cracking second over course and distance in September), and seems sure to go close here granted any luck in running in a big field.
