Today’s Racing Tips – April 22nd

An 8-race extravaganza on ITV on Saturday, with top class jumps action on Scottish National day at Ayr, complimented by high quality flat racing from Newbury. Today’s Daily Nap

Chaldean

Newbury 2:40 (UK time)

Andrew Balding holds this strapping 3-y-o in the highest regard at home, with the 2000 Guineas very much on the agenda next month at Newmarket. He is sure to be fully fit for this seasonal reappearance at Group 3 level, and his smart turn of foot should be seen to maximum effect on the drying ground at Newbury.

Odds: NA

Newbury 1:30 (UK time)

John and Thady Gosden’s progressive performer ended last season with a below par effort on deep ground at Doncaster in November, but all of his previous form through the summer months marked him down as a smart performer to follow over middle distances, and he can make a winning reappearance at Newbury on Saturday.

Odds: NA

1:50AyrSail AwayDan Skelton has his team in terrific form as the jumps season draws to a close, and his promising chaser will appreciate the drying ground conditions over three miles at Ayr. He jumped superbly when winning on good ground at Warwick last May, and his relative freshness should count for plenty against rivals who have been slogging through winter ground for the last few months.
2:05NewburySwingalongKarl Burke has assembled a very strong team for the summer months ahead, and this scopey filly is just the sort to thrive over the next few months for her excellent yard. She steps up in trip to seven furlongs for the first time here after five career starts as a juvenile (latest in Group 1 company when overdoing things from the front), and seems sure to be primed first time out for this valuable Group 3 prize under Clifford Lee.
2:25AyrMilkwoodNeil Mulholland’s useful performer is always best over a sharp two miles on decent ground, and he had been catching the eye in defeat until struggling in soft ground at the Cheltenham festival last time out.

3:00AyrBalco CoastalNicky Henderson’s strapping chaser has been highly tried of late at the top level, but he will relish the decent ground here and can bounce back to his best in slightly calmer waters.
03:15NewburyAussie BankerRichard Hughes useful performer has been kept busy throughout the winter months on the all-weather, and might just have a crucial fitness edge over some of these rivals. He is completely unexposed on turf after just two career starts, and looks feasibly handicapped under the excellent David Egan.
03:35AyrThreeunderthrufivePaul Nicholl’s stayer has become well handicapped after a relatively disappointing season, but he has had excuses on bad winter ground on a couple of occasions and might just relish this step up to 4m for the first time in a nine race career over fences.
