There is a 9 race extravaganza on ITV on Saturday, with the best of the jumping action from Festival Trials day at Cheltenham, alongside a competitive and valuable card at Doncaster. The Grade 1 Clarence House Chase (1.20pm) has been rearranged from a frozen Ascot last weekend, and sees the long awaited clash between the Champion Chase rivals Energumene and Edwardstone. Over at Doncaster, the SkyBet handicap chase is another very competitive renewal over three miles, with all of the top yards represented and wide open betting (and several of the large firms offering attractive extra places for each-way betting).

Dan Skelton is building a terrific record on these big Saturdays, and his progressive novice has created a deep impression in winning two competitive novice hurdles this winter. He now steps up to Grade 2 company under Harry Skelton, but will relish the testing ground and the emphasis on stamina up the hill is very much in his favour.

Nicky Henderson has always held this strapping type in the highest regard, and he is worth forgiving a slightly disappointing effort when well backed for his seasonal reappearance in warm handclap company. This Grade 2 clearly represents a step up in class, but perhaps a positive ride will be on the cards from James Bowen, and the front of the market certainly has a vulnerable look at the prices.

1:20	Cheltenham	Energumene	Willie Mullins top class chaser has only tasted defeat once over fences at the hands of Shiskin at Ascot last season, and has a brilliant make up here for a patient/stalking ride from Paul Townend (with Amarillo Sky and Editeur de Gite both confirmed frontrunners, who are likely to duel on the lead and set things up for him to pounce after the last).
1:30	Doncaster	Boothill	Harry Fry’s progressive novice did very well to win at Kempton last time out, showing a terrific attitude for pressure to reel in the frontrunning Aucunrisque having conceded first run. He will relish the galloping nature of Doncaster on decent eased ground, and the stable could not be in better form at the moment.
1:50	Cheltenham	Il Ridito	Paul Nicholls has had his team in blistering form for several weeks now, and his 6-y-o has run two cracking races in warm handicaps at this course already this winter. He might be just the sort to improve for a more positive ride from the front (strong traveller), and Harry Cobden is riding better than anyone else in the UK at the moment.
2:05	Doncaster	Martello Sky	Lucy Wadham’s mare had little chance with the top class Love Envoi at Sandown last time out in very attritional ground, but she ran really well over this course and distance last October and represent much better value than the short-priced favourite Epatante. The booking of Brian Hughes certainly increases confidence of an upset, and her strike rate of 6 from 12 over hurdles is certainly impressive.

2:40	Doncaster	Twig	Ben Pauling has a cracking team of young horses at his disposal this winter, and his progressive novice is worth sticking with now upped in class to Grade 2 company at Doncaster on Saturday.
3:00	Cheltenham	Botox Has	Gary Moore tough and genuine handicapper has a terrific attitude for pressure, and a positive ride upped to Graded company could make him very hard to pass up the stamina-sapping final climb. Short-priced favourite Paisley Park makes no appeal at all at the prices, and there is probably not as much between our selection on form as the ratings suggest.
3:15	Doncaster	Mister Coffey	Nicky Henderson’s useful performer has not won the races that his ability suggests, often not finding off the bridle when asked, but he has a high cruising speed and a big field handicap at this flat track could really play to his strengths if ridden with patience.
