Today’s Racing Tips – June 24th

There is something for everyone on the Saturday at Royal Ascot, with seven compelling televised races on ITV and the betting action sure to be fierce (capacity crowd and all of the off-course bookmakers sure to be offering some terrific value in the morning). The day begins with the 7f Chesham Stakes for juveniles, while the 6f Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee at 3.40pm provides a terrific opening for older sprinters to win some fantastic prize money at the top level.

The concluding 2m5f Queen Alexandra at 6.10pm is one of the longest flat races in the calendar, and often provides an opening for jumps trainers to bring one of their useful hurdlers to compete at the best flat meeting in the world (with their proven stamina counting for plenty).

Today’s Daily Nap

La Guarida

Ascot 2:30 (UK time)

Richard Hannon’s 2-y-o’s always improve run to run, and this scopey filly created a deep impression when getting off the mark at Goodwood on her second career start. She will relish the step up to seven furlongs in the Chesham at Royal Ascot on Saturday, and can see off some highly touted Irish trained rivals under Kevin Stott.

Odds: NA

Today’s Value Angle

Holguin

Ascot 3:05 (UK time)

Andrew Balding’s 3-y-o has only won 1 of his eight career starts so far, but he has been running well in warm company in three starts this season and this Group 3 looks a perfect opportunity. He was picked off by a more patiently ridden rival last time out at Epsom (raced prominently up on a fast pace), and more patient tactics can pay dividends here under David Probert.

Odds: NA

Odds are best odds available as at 9am June 24th 2023. Odds may now differ.

3:40AscotRohaanDave Evans sprinter has a terrific record at this track on quick ground, and he should be spot on fitness-wise after a quiet reintroduction. He is a smooth traveller in these sprints, looking to weave his way through late from off the pace, and seems sure to go close here under Adam Kirby with any luck in running.
4:20AscotFree WindJohn and Thady Gosden’s progressive filly has now won six of her eight career starts, and returned to the fray with a workmanlike win in the Group 2 Middleton at York in May. She should strip a lot fitter for that first run in nine months, and a true run race over 1m4f would be her optimum conditions under Frankie Dettori.
5:00AscotProbeJeannie Candlish would not be the most regular visitor down south, but it looks significant that she brings her improving sprinter down for the Royal meeting. He caught the eye when very well backed at Epsom last time out, possibly unsuited by the undulations/camber but finishing with running left in the tank, and this fast run huge field sprint should set things up ideally for a late charge.
5:35AscotKnockbrexCharlie Johnston’s unexposed 3-y-o shaped a lot better than the bare result on his handicap debut at York last time out, racing very wide initially harried on a strong pace and only fading inside the final furlong. This drop back to 1m2f should suit ideally, and he remains with plenty of upside after just four career starts.
06:10AscotRun For OscarCharles Byrne’s stayer has long shaped as though well capable of winning one of these extreme tests of stamina when the cards fall right, and he comes into this valuable marathon on the back of a promising reappearance in a listed contest at the Curragh (negative ride and never landed a blow over an inadequate trip).
