There are 5 meetings in Britain and Ireland to start the working week on Monday, with jumps racing from Hereford, Huntingdon, Plumpton and Punchestown providing welcome opportunities for trainers now that the big freeze is behind us. For all-weather fans there is an evening card at Wolverhampton to get stuck into, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm.

Alan King’s unexposed 6-y-o looked a handicapper to follow when making a winning start in this sphere at Bangor in October (form well franked since by the runner-up Lily Glitters). He had excuses (hampered in rear from a poor starting position) when a shade disappointing at Ascot last time, and has been given a couple of months off since to freshen up. This Plumpton handicap represents a drop back down in class, and regular rider Tom Cannon has an excellent record here.

Andy Irvine’s 10-y-o has not won over fences since December 2019, but his falling mark reflects that now and there was some encouragement from his latest remote third at this unique Sussex venue. The drop back to a bare two miles promises to suit if he is able to dominate proceedings from the tape, and the booking of the promising 5lb claimer Caolin Quinn certainly increases confidence of a bold showing.
