Boxing Day is all about the King George meeting at Kempton, with Bravemansgame sure to start a strongly supported favourite in the big race at 2.30pm this year for Paul Nicholls. There is plenty of quality across the entire card, with the rearranged Long Walk Hurdle at 12.45pm providing a cracking rematch between Champ and Paisley Park.
This is traditionally a very busy afternoon for punters, and the supporting (nine) meetings are all sure to attract huge holiday crowds up and down the country.
In this article:
Champ
Kempton 12:45 (UK time)
Nicky Henderson’s high class stayer proved well suited by forcing tactics from the front when making a winning reappearance at Newbury last month, and this track on eased decent ground could well prove his optimum in the rearranged Long Walk Hurdle. He has a high cruising speed and plenty of resolution for pressure, and should soon have these rivals out of their comfort zone (with old foe Paisley Park far from sure to back up his effort given a history of physical issues in the past).
Odds: NA
Hitman
Kempton 2:30 (UK time)
Paul Nicholls progressive young chaser is untested beyond 2m5f, but has long shaped as though worth a try at three miles and has an excellent make up for a patient, waiting ride from Sam Twiston-Davies. There is almost certain to be a strongly contested pace at the head of affairs for a fascinating renewal of the King George, with Frodon and L’Homme Presse both confirmed frontrunners, and his strong travelling/sound jumping run-style should be ideal for this valuable Grade 1.
Odds: NA
