There are seven scheduled race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with at fans in for an informative afternoon as the York Dante meeting comes to its final day on quickening ground. They also have Hamilton, Leopardstown, Newbury and Nottingham to study, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at the Berkshire venue (and Richard Hannon sure to be well represented). Jumping fans have decent grade action to study at Aintree and Kilbeggan, with a huge crowd assured at Liverpool for their popular evening meeting and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year.

Devoted Queen
York 3.15 (UK time)
Charlie Appleby has hit form with a vengeance after six winners in the last fortnight at an 18pc strike rate, and his exciting filly is fancied to maintain her unbeaten record stepping up in class at York on Friday. She has landed hefty market confidence in two career starts so far at Newmarket and Kempton, and should relish the fast ground conditions expected here under William Buick (good mover who has shown a terrific turn of foot against inferior opposition).
Odds: 3.75
Challet
York 4.45 (UK time)
Michael Dods handicapper has a terrific record on the Knavesmire, and seems sure to be primed to make a winning reappearance after 272 days on the sidelines. This seven furlong trip would be his optimum, and a strongly run race is very much on the cards in a big field of pretty exposed performers (should set things up for Conor Beasley to swoop late on the reliable 7-y-o).
Odds: 7.00
