There are eight meetings in Britain and Ireland on a very busy Friday of racing, with competitive fast ground handicaps very much the order of the day up and down the country. Flat cards at Chepstow, Cork, Fairyhouse, Goodwood, Sandown and York will keep punters and bookmakers busy throughout the afternoon and evening. NH fans have Aintree and Fontwell to study (with drying fast ground expected as the heatwave continues and the emphasis very much on speed at both tracks despite watering).
In this article:
Dora Penny
York 3:00 (UK time)
David Evans tough and genuine filly improved markedly for her seasonal reappearance when landing a gamble at Kempton last time out (finding strongly for pressure in a competitive handicap for the track), and she has been found a terrific opportunity to follow up at York on Friday. A fast ground six furlongs seems sure to suit ideally under Danny Tudhope, and she can enhance a terrific strike rate of 10 wins from 27 career starts.
Odds: NA
Aqwaam
York 1:50 (UK time)
Ian Williams has his team in terrific form at the moment (five winners in the last fortnight at a 17pc strike rate), and his consistent handicapper has shaped well in defeat in recent weeks (finishing a cracking second on soft ground at Doncaster in May). This faster surface promises to suit under Callum Hutchinson, and a positive ride from the front looks a good plan dropping back slightly in trip.
Odds: NA
