There are five scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with NH fans in for a busty afternoon of decent quality jumps action. They have Ffos Las and Newbury to study on very testing ground, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at the top Berkshire venue (alongside some informative novice hurdles). AW fans have low grade action to study at Dundalk, Lingfield and Newcastle, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm at the latter track and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year.
In this article:
Ballycamus
Newbury 3.00 (UK time)
Nigel Twiston-Davies likeable young chaser has been running well in victory and defeat in recent weeks, and this much more galloping track promises to suit under regular rider Sam Twiston-Davies. He was rather caught flat footed in a tactical small field last time out at Warwick, showing a terrific attitude to prevail, and the stronger pace in this better class should help on soft ground that he handles very well (with plenty more improvement in the tank after just three career starts over fences).
Odds: 5.0
Kansas City Star
Newbury 4.10 (UK time)
Harry Derham continues in terrific form, and his smart hurdler made a smooth transition to chasing at Huntingdon last time out (jumping well from the front to land hefty market confidence). He now has to defy the handicapper, but has plenty of scope to keep on improving and these demanding fences should play to his strengths under Paul O’Brien.
Odds: 3.5
