There are 5 meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with small fields the order of the day over jumps at Bangor and Kempton. Nicky Henderson is the man to follow at the Sunbury venue, with his strike rate nudging 40pc over the years, and he is sure to have a strong team lined up on the expected good ground. All-weather fans have Chelmsford, Dundalk and Southwell to get studying, with the lights coming on at 5.15pm at the Essex venue.

Dan Skelton’s unexposed novice suffered an expensive defeat when turned over at odds-on at Market Rasen in November, but that has not done her opening handicap any harm at all and she should be capable of improving after just two career starts over hurdles. The drop back to a bare two miles at this right handed track means Tristan Durrell will have to be very positive (winning pointer last April), but this does not look the strongest class 4 and she will appreciate the expected drying conditions at Kempton.

He is a previous course and distance round here on decent ground, and is now slipping back down to a very attractive mark after failing to see things out at the business end since returning at Exeter in November. The booking of the excellent Brendan Powell increases confidence, and a positive ride is on the cards to put his jumping to good use.
