There are six meetings in Britain on Friday, with competitive flat action still dominating from Dundalk (AW), Haydock, Redcar and Newcastle (AW). For jumping fans there is the season opener at Fakenham to look forward to, while bigger fields are certain at Uttoxeter for a card starting at 1.15pm (and five tricky handicaps for the punters to solve).
In this article:
Thunder Star
Haydock 1:40 (UK time)
Jessica Macey’s juvenile filly impressed when getting off the mark on debut over this course and distance in June (handling the testing ground well given her inexperience), and has had excuses since in fairly warm novice/nursery company (too free last time and possibly didn’t handle the AW surface). This handicap mark may underestimate her scope to improve after just four career starts, and freshness at this stage of the season should count for plenty under Lewis Edmunds.
Odds: NA
Just Frank
Haydock 2:50 (UK time)
Les Eyre’s sprinter had shaped with distinct promise on his first two runs this season until running a stinker on the all-weather at Newcastle in June, but that might just have been down to the track and he is worth chancing now from a reduced handicap mark. He returns here after a break to freshen up under Lewis Edmunds, and the expected softer ground should be in his favour (and possibly against some of those at the head of the market).
Odds: NA
