World Cup Winner Odds 2022: Brazil Short Odds to Win Title

The biggest event in football returns this year with a November kickoff for the first time. France are the defending champions after their triumph in Russia four years ago but there are plenty of nations competing to take the crown.

The World Cup 2022 is set to be staged in Qatar and it promises to be an exciting one and quite unique in every sense of it. It is less than two months away and the buzz is gradually building towards the Mundial.

Who are the favourites to win the World Cup in 2022?

Once again, Brazil are the favourites to win the World Cup. They’re so often towards the top of this list when the World Cup rolls around every four years. It’s a footballing nation of immense pedigree and this group of players is perhaps the best they’ve had for 20 years.

Brazil last won the title in 2002 and have since then struggled. They reached the semis on home soil in 2014 before that extraordinary 7-1 defeat to eventual winners Germany at Estádio Mineirão.

Only a couple of players who were a part of that squad will head to Qatar this winter. This is a new-look team and a new manager in charge in Tite. One player who starred back in 2014 and will do so again is the PSG forward Neymar. He will be flanked most likely by Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid and Barcelona’s Raphinha. The Seleção are star-studded from top to bottom and are deserving favourites on current form.

Since losing to Argentina in the Copa America final last year, Brazil have won 12 of their last 15 games and are currently on a run of seven consecutive victories. It is hard to look past this team and given that they are the number one ranked country in the world, there are huge expectations on them. Especially after that Quarter final exit in 2018.

They will begin their quest for success in Qatar in a group completed by Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. Without any iota of doubt, the Brazilians are expected to top the group comfortably.
While putting all of these metrics together, it is no surprise that the South Americans have odds of 5.50 to win the title for a record sixth time.

Who are the Contenders to Win the World Cup?

France will be hoping to successfully defend the title they won in Russia four years ago when they head out to Qatar this November. Controversy follows Les Blues with several key players injured and off-field issues to contend with right now. Each and every time that they have done well at the showpiece, the following campaign is usually a mess. It would be a surprise if they go on to defend the title in December.

Argentina are in the mix. They have been excellent in the past year and their performances at the last few World Cups inspire confidence. They reached the final in 2014 but could not pass the second round in Russia as they lost to eventual winners France. La Albiceleste haven’t lost a game since 2019 and are currently ranked 3rd in the world. The South Americans are at 8.00 odds to win the Cup which looks generous.

Back to Europe where England have also been given 8.00 odds to win the showpiece. The Three Lions reached the semis of the last edition and were beaten on home soil at the Euro 2020 final. Gareth Southgate’s men have come a long way, but their form leading up to the event has been poor. It is one of the reasons why the bookies don’t have them any higher in the standings. However, their performance at recent international competitions can’t be underestimated and are deservedly one of the favourites for this one.

Champions in 2010, Spain are making a return to the Mundial once again after easing out the Golden Generation. It was a disastrous tournament for them in 2014 and they suffered a similar fate four years ago when they lost to hosts Russia in the second round. Luis Enrique has been up and running with the new-look La Furia Roja, who made it to the Nations League finals at the expense of Portugal; they hope to beat the odds and claim another win at the world stage in Qatar.

Germany are one of the most successful nations in World Cup history. Since 2000, they have managed to reach the semis of every edition but the one in Russia. Joachim Low was a focal point of everything that happened at the time and has been replaced by quintuple winner Hansi Flick – who has been tasked with the responsibility of building a new generation of new winners for Germany. At 11.00 odds plus their history in the tournament, it’s quite a generous tip from the bookmakers.

Here is another prominent side from the 2010 edition in South Africa – the Oranje of Netherlands. They missed a series of major tournaments in recent years including the 2018 World Cup but have found their way back into the competition. They finished 3rd in 2014 and are once again led by Louis Van Gaal – the same man who was at the helm eight years ago. The Dutch will be hoping for another memorable run when they begin their journey in November.

Who are the Outsiders to Win the World Cup 2022?

Denmark have become a side with so much belief in collectivism and teamwork. They recently dispatched France in the Nations League and have been tagged as one of the outsiders to land the huge prize in Qatar. Priced at 29.00 odds, the Danes can dream of an achievement that would top their success at the European Championships in 1992.

The runners-up in 2018, Croatia may have peaked at the time. They reached great heights in Russia, upsetting the odds along the way. That side has changed in the past four years, hence the 51.00 odds given to them this time. It is probably going to be the last appearance at the Mundial for the old guards including Luka Modric and they’ll be eyeing the prize as a parting gift.

Former Champions Uruguay have declined recently and are just starting to rebuild for subsequent editions. They reached the semis in 2010 but have struggled on the big stage since then. With a new generation of players led by Federico Valverde of Real Madrid and Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, the South Americans will be hoping for a good outing.

As for the African champions, Senegal, they are priced at 81.00 odds to win the World Cup which is quite decent. In proper perspective, they are one of the two African sides to have reached the quarterfinals of the Mundial. Sadio Mane has been able to lead them to continental glory in February and it’s time to deliver on the big stage. Can they cause an upset? Time will tell.

On the other hand, Switzerland are rightfully considered as outsiders to win the World Cup. Pegged at 81.00 to win the biggest prize in men’s football – It will take a lot for it to happen, but their recent win over one of the favourites in Qatar – Spain – gives them hope of having a great tournament.

The World Cup 2022 in Qatar will be the first of its kind and the winner of the huge prize will forever be remembered in history. Before Christmas, the winner would have emerged and we’ll be back to check if it played out accordingly.
