The 2022/23 Premier League season has barely started but the opening day served us with much excitement as Manchester United’s defeat saw the biggest upset of the gameweek.
Matchday 2 is here in no time, with some interesting ties to look forward to and we bring you the previews and what to expect ahead of all the games this weekend.
Sat, August 13th, 12:30 (UK Time)
Both sides will be eager to pick up their first wins of the campaign, after losing to Bournemouth and Chelsea respectively. It was a more worrying result for Steven Gerrard and company as that result meant his team have now managed to win just two of their previous 12 Premier League matches, a worrying trend that’s starting to put the former Liverpool star under mounting scrutiny.
Things are looking bleak for Everton at the moment and a successive defeat could leave them low on morale at the early stage of the season.

Arsenal will be looking to make it two wins from two as they welcome a deflated Leicester
City side to the Emirates stadium. The Foxes have struggled against the Gunners
in recent times and by the look of things, another defeat could be lying in wait as well.
The 2012/13 season was the last time Arsenal didn’t concede a goal after their first two PL games (D2), a season the Gunners wouldn’t mind replicating as they went on to finish fourth.

After recording their first ever top-half Premier League finish last season, Brighton produced the shock of the opening weekend with a 2-1 win away to Manchester United, their first ever victory at Old Trafford.
However, the Seagulls will take on a resurgent Newcastle side, who have been among the best sides in 2022. The Magpies also started their season on a winning note and will fancy their chances in this game.

Beating West Ham United 2-0 to open their Premier League (PL) title defence was the ideal start for Manchester City, avoiding a repeat of last term’s first-day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. After marquee signing Erling Haaland scored twice, City fans now get to see him in action at home for the first time and they will expect goals as newly promoted Bournemouth visit.
This game is expected to go in one direction and it will be quite an upset if the Cherries get something out of the game.

Southampton look to bounce back from a 4-1 hammering at Tottenham on the opening weekend of the season as they welcome Leeds to St Mary’s. However, history is not in their favour, considering the Saints have not won their first home game of a Premier League campaign since the 2004/05 season.
Meanwhile, Leeds started their campaign on a winning note and will aim to make it two from two.

Wolves started their campaign with a defeat away to Leeds and will be eager to claim their first points of the season.
However, they face a spirited Fulham side full of confidence after holding Liverpool to a draw in their season opener. Wolves will fancy their chances but in retrospect, it is an open game for either side.

Brentford showed some good resilience as they came from two goals down to salvage a point in their opening 2-2 draw against Leicester City. It was a different story for United at Old Trafford, where Erik Ten Hag’s era started on a losing note to Brighton. Another loss for the Red Devils will take the worry levels to red alert and Brentford will know they have a chance to strike their wounded opposition.

Stamford Bridge will be the venue for the first ‘big game’ of the season as Chelsea welcome London rivals Tottenham to their home turf. Both sides will be looking to build on their opening day victories after Chelsea claimed a 1-0 win over Everton and Tottenham dispatched Southampton with a convincing 4-1 scoreline.
The London heavyweights are also expected to challenge for the top four and this should be something of an early marker as the top guns look to declare their title ambitions/aspirations from the onset.

Both sides will be looking to register their first wins of the campaign and West Ham in particular, will go into the game as favourites. There is no shame in losing to defending champions Manchester City but anything short of a win against newly-promoted Forest will count as a setback for the Hammers.

Liverpool will be eager to prove that their stalemate against Fulham was only a mere blip by securing all three points in front of their own fans. The Reds have a rather strong winning
record against Palace, claiming victories in their last ten outings and will aim to do more of the same on Monday night.
