Expert, Nathan Joyes, serves up his Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures in what promises to be an intriguing clash in La Liga, not long after the hosts’ Europa League trek to Croatia.
Our Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao prediction is for Athletic Bilbao to win the match 0-1.
In this article:
Spain, La Liga, Sunday, February 25th, 15:15 (UK)
Athletic Bilbao were unable to beat Almeria despite the hosts going down to ten men with 30 minutes left to play, but it did extend their unbeaten run to five matches across all competitions.
In fact, after their dramatic 4-2 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, Athletic Bilbao have gone four games without conceding. More impressively, this includes defeating Atletico Madrid 1-0.
Both Gorka Guruzeta (nine) and Inaki Williams (eight) have been prolific for the visitors this season, but the former is likely to miss the trip due to injury.
However, they’ve proven they aren’t reliant on him, with 12 other goalscorers in La Liga this campaign.
With the fifth-best away record in the league, only conceding nine goals across 12 matches, Bilbao doesn’t look like they are going to give up their unbeaten run just yet.
I say this due to the fact Betis have failed to show any kind of consistency of late. A 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa Conference League extended their winless run at Estadio Benito Villamarin to three games.
The hosts have also only lost once in their last seven matches in all competitions, which was a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Granada.
With a midweek trip to Croatia, Betis are unlikely to be as sharp as Bilbao, especially if the game goes beyond 90 minutes.
With one team showing consistency at home and away and with the other struggling to deal with their busy calendar, it makes logical sense to back the visitors to come away with the win.
Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction odds via bet365 as at 11:00, February 19th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
There’s a Europa League clash incoming on Thursday for Real Betis, as the Spaniards travel to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb. As always, it’ll be crucial to observe the outcome of that fixture for more up-to-date Real Betis news for the weekend clash versus Athletic Club.
There’s no European competition on the agenda for Athletic Club. They’ll have their feet up on Thursday evening whilst Real Betis treks around Europe. Guido Rodriguez, Ayoze Perez, Marc Barta, Isco and Abner Vinicus all missed out through injury on the weekend against Alaves (0-0) – each of which are unlikely to feature on the weekend.
Real Betis possible starting lineup:
Silva; Miranda, Sokratis, Pezzella, Bellerin, Johnny, Roca, Fornals, Fekir, Ezzalzouli, Avila
Athletic Bilbao possible starting lineup:
Simon; Berchiche, Paredes, Alvarez, de Marcos, Vesga, Ruiz de Galarreta, Williams, Gomez, Berenguer, Villaibre
