Friburg and RB Leipzig face off at the Olympiastadion in the DFB Pokal final as the German football season comes to a close. Both teams had contrasting ends to their Bundesliga campaign, with Freiburg losing their last two games while Leipzig won and drew their last two. I’ve gone for a bet builder at 6.50 odds as both sides look to end their season on a high with silverware in the bag.

Led by the longest serving coach across Europe’s top-five leagues, Christian Streich’s Freiburg will be aiming to end their season on a high after reaching the first ever major cup final in their 118-year history. Having secured a Europa League spot for the first time since 2013/14, Freiburg can still describe their season as ‘successful’ regardless of whatever happens.
Two consecutive defeats to conclude their Bundesliga campaign saw Freiburg’s push for a Champions League spot come to an end. Their bid to return to winning ways is not assured as they are without a victory in their last five games against RB Leipzig, losing two of them. The other three games ended in 1-1 draws, which is the same scoreline produced within 90 minutes in two of Freiburg’s five DFB Pokal rounds leading to the final.

For Leipzig, they head into this game as favourites but it might be far from a straightforward affair. With a top 4 finish in the Bundesliga wrapped up, Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco can turn his attention to the club’s third DFB Pokal final across the last four seasons. It is his first ever major cup final as a coach.
Having lost their previous two finals by three-goal margins, Leipzig will fancy their chances of going all the way this time around. They can be forgiven for losing to Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but taking on a side like Freiburg will give them much confidence ahead of the game.
By any standards, Leipzig enjoyed an easy run to the final, having faced lower-tier opposition and scoring 11 goals without reply. However, they had to battle from behind to overcome fellow Bundesliga side Union Berlin 2-1 in the semi-finals.
The game might be much closer than many would expect but I am leaning towards a title-concluding campaign for Leipzig and Tedesco.
Finals are often cagey and it’s mostly difficult to go with the goal market especially when silverware is on the line. However, I’m backing Leipzig to come out on top, either by a slender goal margin or even if the game ends up in extra time.
Leipzig owe this trophy chance to a 90+2’ strike from Emil Forsberg in the semi-final – his last two goals have now served to finish the scoring. Though with only one goal in this competition, he has proven to be a clutch player and I’m backing him to get on the score sheet.

A bet builder is a kind of accumulator bet solely focussed on one match. A standard acca features multiple selections across different selections combined together into one bet. If one selection loses, the whole bet loses. A bet builder is similar but each selection is placed on the same match. Similar to the American prop bet, the bet builder goes into detail on a single match. Common selections include match outcome, total goals, cards, corners, and players to score.
